February 2nd
Conditions continue to deliver for yet another solid day for ski exploration in the backcountry. Up high continues to be the best skiing, with untracked lines still be found if you are willing to work for it.  Below that 1200 foot line the skiing really continues to change, with crust and challenging conditions prevailing on the lower half of the peaks. Down low also continues to be thinner for cover, so stay on your toes as you begin to reach the lower elevations on your descent. This should be pretty evident on the skin up, as it’s a great way to access the conditions as you get ready to ski down. As you can see in the picture of the base depth today, we have really gained a lot of ground from a few a weeks ago with close to a 3 foot base We are going to get ready to go into the deep freeze for the next two days, with dangerously cold conditions. We will be taking a two-day hiatus from updating the report as it is advised NOT to be outside Friday and Saturday with temperatures forecasted to be anywhere from 20-40 below zero depending on where you are. The good news is, we are expecting snow squalls tonight which could produce a few inches of snow but will also be accompanied by heavy winds and extreme cold air temperatures coming in behind it. This extreme cold will only last for a few days and Sunday is looking good with back to normal temperatures to go back outside and explore.   It will be interesting to see what the wind and temperatures do to the snow. Stay tuned…                                                           Â
