Vermont is coming back strong in a big way right now.
After another combination rain and dense snowfall event over this past weekend, we were left with a super base builder that coated and stuck to everything in sight. We then have received everything from snow squalls to lake effect snow which has provided us with an additional 6” of snow now sitting on top of a firm base. More snow is expected this afternoon and tonight and snow has already begun to fall as I write this report.
The resort has opened all of the front four trails and other natural snow trails that are skiing very well, especially the upper half of the mountain. Once you get down low you will feel the crust layer under your skis. Upper mountain woods skiing is also quite good.
The same can be said for the backcountry right now as we have really good coverage. Like the mountain, the upper and lower elevations are skiing quite differently. Up high turns are surfy and soft and as you get lower, you will certainly also feel that crust layer. The good news for the first time all season, we now have a solid base down low, and although on the firmer side right now, today’s snow will give things a nice refresh.
Tomorrow should be a powder day on all fronts! The rest of the week looks cold and wintery. Bring it on!
