The storm that was forecasted to drop 4-6” of snow yesterday definitely overproduced. As of this morning, Mt. Mansfield saw a foot of snow and more in certain spots were there were wind loading. The snow was on the lighter side this time around, and made for some very nice turns yesterday and this morning. But due to the lightness of the snow and based on the fact that there was bare ground in many places before the snow came, caution is advised as it’s still low tide conditions, especially on natural snow trails and on steeper pitches where aggressive turning takes you down to the ground where you can hit all of the rocks, stumps and debris that is lurking underneath.
For the first time since the 2nd week of December, it’s back to powder and packed powder conditions, as the mountain has finally turned the corner and is skiing exceptionally well right now. Earn your turns resort skiers were rewarded for their efforts the last two mornings with soft, powdery turns, and once the lifts started spinning, skiers were grinning from ear to ear on the most fun they have had in quite some time.
There is something very magical about snow storms. From the coating of the trees, to the town and our backyards finally being white again, it’s what Vermont should be like at this time of the year. Living in a snow globe is what we all live for and it certainly is a welcome site to be back in the winter swing of things. From scraping snow off of your car, to shoveling walkways and seeing the snow plows out and about, snow enthusiasts were rejoicing. Winter is finally back so get after it while you can as another weather system curve ball approaches us for Wednesday.
