Winter has retuned!
2-4” dense inches of snow fell from the skies Saturday evening into Sunday morning, refreshing the surface and providing some tasty and soft turns for both the resort, side country and backcountry areas in Stowe. Sunday morning was a real treat for those who got on it early, with the dense snow covering much of the ice that had formed from the rain event we had last. This reporter had the pleasure of getting first tracks down the infamous Bruce Trail yesterday. The Bruce was the first ski trail ever to be cut on Mt. Mansfield by the Civilian Conservation Core in 1937 under President Roosevelt’s term in office to help create work for folks coming out of the depression. Never placed on the trial map, this iconic run twists and turns through the forests and drops you out in Ranch Camp and connects through the Mansfield X/C center to take you right to the Matterhorn Bar and restaurant for celebratory beers and wings. This should be a must do on every Stowe Skiers check list if you haven’t done it already. Cover right now from top to bottom is great. Go get it before its gone!
