Stowe Totality
With the eclipse event now behind us, we can now look back on a monumental moment in time that left quite an impression on those who witnessed it.Â
As skiers, there was no better place to be to view the event than being on a mountain top, which was certainly the case here in Stowe.  Hundreds of people took advantage of a lift ride to the top of Mansfield, or boot packed, skinned or even climbed with hiking shoes with micro spikes to the top of the Chin or the to the top of Spruce Peak’s Look Out rocks to view a once in lifetime opportunity.
And for all of the hype that was built up around this event and moment, it was certainly worth it in my eyes. I was on top Spruce Peak with about 75 other snow enthusiasts taking it all in on the Look Out rocks. Tripods and big cameras, along with cell phones were snapping away along with some drones to capture the moment. Beers were cracked, charcutier boards with lavish food set ups were brought out to snack in style.
At exactly 3:26 in the afternoon, the skies turned dark and we were greeted with a magical orange sky with Mt. Mansfield lit up in the background.Â
The air was filled with ooohs and ahhhs as time seemed to stand still for 3 minutes. The temperatures dropped dramatically up top during this time, but the sights along with the chill in air sent shivers down everyone spines who were simply blown away with the light show that Mother Nature put on for us.
It was a moment that I will cherish and never forget like so many of us did. We will remember very clearly where we were, who we were with and what were we doing this time when we look back and reflect on it all over the years and decades to come. Â
There was simply no better way to see complete totality than with skis boots on our feet and over a 1,000 feet of vertical to ski down on soft snow to celebrate!
