Merino blended with synthetic fibre for the durability wool alone doesn't have, with a zip neck for venting on the move.

Pure merino is warmer and better at odour control. Blended merino is tougher and dries faster. For a base layer you'll wear several days a week all winter, the blend is the better buy, and for a multi-day trip in real cold the pure wool pieces are worth the trade.

Base layers are where people economise and then regret it, because this is the piece against your skin every single day you ski. Cotton is actively dangerous once you sweat in it. Synthetic works but starts smelling by lunch on day two. Wool blend is the answer for most people, most of the time.

The zip neck matters more than it looks. Venting without stopping to remove a layer is how you avoid getting soaked on a climb.

Fitted, as a base layer needs to be. It works by touching your skin.
