Maven is Atomic's women's all-mountain line and the C is the Carbon Backbone, an ultra-light carbon insert running the length of the ski. Add a poplar Light Woodcore, All Mountain Rocker at 15/75/10, the wood-reinforced HRZN 3D tip, Duracap sidewalls, 87 degree side and 1.0 degree base edges. Waist runs 86 to 87.5mm, radius 14m to 15.5m, and a 165 weighs 1400 grams per ski.

The Carbon Backbone is a lighter, more forgiving build than the full CTI layup in the wider Mavens, and that is the trade. This ski nearly disappears underfoot at moderate speed, which is lovely across a long day and less convincing when you want to open it up on firm snow. It gives up top-end power in exchange for ease.

For advanced intermediate skiers who want a ski that builds confidence rather than demanding it. Anyone pushing expert terrain and speed should look at the CTI version.

A ski around your height is the starting point. Down 5 to 10cm for groomers and tighter terrain, up 5 to 10cm for soft snow and open slopes.

It is light, quick and properly fun, and it is the ski we hand someone who wants to enjoy a full day rather than fight one.

This guide is for alpine (downhill) skis. Ski length depends on your height, your ability, and how you like to ski. Use this chart as a starting point, then talk to us about the ski itself: rocker, width, and turn shape all change how long a ski feels.

Quick Rule

  • Beginner: ski tip around your chin. Shorter skis turn easily.
  • Intermediate: tip between your nose and forehead.
  • Advanced: tip around the top of your head, for stability at speed.
  • Expert: about 5cm longer than advanced, for hard charging and big-mountain terrain.

Adjust For

  • Go longer: heavier build, fast skiing, deep snow, lots of tip rocker.
  • Go shorter: lighter build, tight trees and moguls, uphill touring.
  • Telemark: if you want a ski for tele, we recommend going down about 10cm from the length you normally like.
