The MTN 91 Carbon is Salomon's steep-skiing touring ski, with a 91mm waist, 118/104 tip and tail and a 15 m radius on a rocker-camber-rocker all-mountain profile. It is built light, with a full karuba core and carbon and basalt fibers, plus a titanal binding reinforcement underfoot, recycled sidewalls, a 50% recycled base and a cork damplifier in the tip.
A narrower, lighter ski climbs easily and grips firm snow well, and it gives up float in deep powder compared with the MTN 96. The titanal underfoot and cork in the tip add confidence on steep, variable descents.
It suits intermediate to advanced tourers who value efficiency and edge hold for couloirs, spring corn and long objectives. If your tours are mostly about powder, the 96 is the better fit.
Salomon lists it at 150 to 182cm. Many touring skiers size down slightly for easier kick turns, and we are happy to help.
When the plan is to climb something steep and ski it back down, the MTN 91 is the ski we trust. Light, precise and a lot of fun.
This guide is for alpine (downhill) skis. Ski length depends on your height, your ability, and how you like to ski. Use this chart as a starting point, then talk to us about the ski itself: rocker, width, and turn shape all change how long a ski feels.

Quick Rule
- Beginner: ski tip around your chin. Shorter skis turn easily.
- Intermediate: tip between your nose and forehead.
- Advanced: tip around the top of your head, for stability at speed.
- Expert: about 5cm longer than advanced, for hard charging and big-mountain terrain.
Adjust For
- Go longer: heavier build, fast skiing, deep snow, lots of tip rocker.
- Go shorter: lighter build, tight trees and moguls, uphill touring.
- Telemark: if you want a ski for tele, we recommend going down about 10cm from the length you normally like.
