The Pahto is Folkrm's adjustable ski pole, pairing their classic long grip with a length you can change on the fly. It runs from 105 to 140 cm, collapses to 80 cm, and weighs 232 g (8.2 oz). The shaft is aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum with a tungsten carbide tip, and it is named after one of the original Native names of Mt. Adams.
The trade-off of an adjustable pole is a locking mechanism to look after, where a fixed pole has nothing to fiddle with. Folkrm keeps it simple with an easy flip-to-adjust lock and a toolless tension adjuster, and the extended EVA grip means you often change your effective length just by moving your hands.
It is for backcountry skiers who want one pole for long skin tracks, sidehills and steep booters, and for anyone who wants a pole that packs down to almost half its size.
One size fits all, with a 64 cm grip. The molded, rubberized Mega Cap handles riser flips and toe locking, the 9 cm locking freeride powder basket stays put, and the strap comes off easily for avalanche terrain.
We think the Pahto is a perfect touring pole for Vermont, light on the skin track and dialed for every transition.
