The Traverse is Black Diamond's classic all-aluminum touring pole, built for weekday dawn patrols, all-day couloir missions and deep days lapping the trees. It has an 18 mm aluminum upper and a 16 mm aluminum lower with FlickLock adjustability, and a pair weighs 553 to 582 g depending on size.
A redesigned touring grip with dual-density soft-touch rubber improves ergonomics, and the durable aluminum holds up to season after season of abuse. The trade-off of aluminum is a few extra grams compared with carbon, in exchange for that durability.
It is for backcountry skiers who want an adjustable pole they can shorten for the climb and lengthen for the descent. It comes with 100 mm Powder Baskets and an indexed ferrule for three-quarter basket compatibility, plus a touring strap with a plastic ladder-lock buckle.
Two sizes: the 140 cm adjusts from 100 to 140 cm and the 155 cm from 100 to 155 cm. Black Diamond suggests 110 cm for skiers 5'1" to 5'7" and 120 cm for 5'8" to 5'11".
We think these are the best value touring poles out there, tough, adjustable and ready for many seasons of laps.
