The Salomon Toundra Pro CSWP is a mid-calf winter boot with a ClimaSalomon waterproof-breathable bootie, Aerotherm synthetic insulation and a faux fur lining. Salomon suggests it for active use down to minus 40 degrees Celsius.
The trade-off is weight and bulk. At about 1.34 kg it is a serious cold-weather boot, not a light hiker, but that is what keeps your feet warm through a Vermont January.
It is for active winter days: shoveling, snowshoeing, walking the dog and getting to and from the mountain. The non-marking Winter Contagrip rubber outsole grips on snow and ice, and a rubber toecap and heel counter protect against scuffs.
The upper is waterproof leather and synthetic, with a lace-up closure, a gusseted tongue to keep snow out and a removable insole.
We think the Toundra Pro is one of the warmest, most dependable winter boots on the wall for life in the Northeast Kingdom and beyond.
