A lofoten shell with thermo80 insulation under the GORE-TEX, built for cold resort skiing where you want one jacket to do the entire job. Thermo80 is Norrøna's warmer synthetic weight, and the number refers to the fill weight in grams per square metre rather than any temperature rating.
Warmer than the thermo60 pieces and meaningfully warmer than a shell with a light mid-layer under it. If you're the person who stays cold all day at Stowe in January no matter what you wear, this is the answer, and it solves the problem with one zipper instead of three layers.
Synthetic rather than down, which is correct for a ski jacket. Down is warmer per gram and quits when damp. A ski jacket gets damp constantly.
The cost of the warmth is versatility. You can't remove insulation that's sewn in, so this jacket has a season and that season is deep winter. If you ski spring corn as much as January powder, a shell plus layers serves you better across the whole year.
