QST is Salomon's freeride line, and the 106 is its versatile heart. This version blends the best of the last three generations: a 106mm waist, 136/123 tip and tail, a 16.5 m radius and a rocker-camber-rocker freeride profile. It is built on a full poplar core with a titanal binding reinforcement edge to edge underfoot, basalt and fiberglass layers, full sandwich sidewalls and a cork damplifier in the tip.

A 106 is a genuine one-ski-quiver width. It floats in fresh snow and stays calm in chop, and it takes a little more effort to roll edge to edge on hardpack than a 90-something ski. The titanal underfoot and cork in the tip help it hold on firm snow and stay quiet at speed.

It is for advanced skiers who want one ski for storm days, soft bumps and the groomer back to the lift. If you mostly ski firm groomers, a narrower ski will feel quicker.

Salomon lists it at 157 to 189cm. Go longer for stability and float, or shorter if you like it quick in tight trees.

First chair on a powder day or corduroy at noon, the QST 106 is happy either way. It is the ski we would pick if we could only own one.

This guide is for alpine (downhill) skis. Ski length depends on your height, your ability, and how you like to ski. Use this chart as a starting point, then talk to us about the ski itself: rocker, width, and turn shape all change how long a ski feels.

Quick Rule

  • Beginner: ski tip around your chin. Shorter skis turn easily.
  • Intermediate: tip between your nose and forehead.
  • Advanced: tip around the top of your head, for stability at speed.
  • Expert: about 5cm longer than advanced, for hard charging and big-mountain terrain.

Adjust For

  • Go longer: heavier build, fast skiing, deep snow, lots of tip rocker.
  • Go shorter: lighter build, tight trees and moguls, uphill touring.
  • Telemark: if you want a ski for tele, we recommend going down about 10cm from the length you normally like.
