The Topo Athletic MTN Racer 4 is a women's trail racer and daily trainer with a 33 mm heel and 28 mm forefoot stack and a 5 mm drop. It uses Topo's ZipFoam midsole, a Vibram Megagrip outsole and an upper redesigned for technical terrain, and a women's size 7 weighs about 8.5 oz.
The trade-off is that it balances cushion and responsiveness instead of maxing out either one. There is no rock plate, so it feels lively and connected rather than armored.
It is for trail runners who race and train on gritty, technical trails and want one shoe that can do both. The FKT insole uses closed-cell beaded foam that resists water and drains quickly, and an improved gaiter attachment keeps debris out.
Topo's fit pairs a roomy toe box with a snug, secure midfoot and heel. Sizes run 6 to 12 in standard and wide.
We love the MTN Racer for fast days on Vermont singletrack and race day on the mountain.
