Backland Summit 12 BR 26/27

The Backland Summit 12 BR is Atomic's all-round tech touring binding with release values adjustable up to 12 and brakes included. The AutoFlex System puts a spring in the heel that gives 5mm of travel between toe and heel through a turn, so the ski can flex naturally instead of being pinned. There is a patented step-in aid at the toe, a climbing aid that flicks from 0 to 7 or 13 degrees with a pole, and an Alu and fiberglass-reinforced PA pin toe and heel.

A tech binding with adjustable release and brakes is heavier than a stripped race binding, and this sits at the heavier end of the Backland range. If you count grams above all else, the Pure is lighter.

For committed tourers who want proper release values and the convenience of brakes. Lighter skiers who never approach a 12 setting are better served by the Summit 9.

Brake width should clear the ski waist. We set release values against weight, height and boot sole length before it goes out.

It is the most broadly useful touring binding Atomic make, and the one we fit to most Backland skis in the shop.
