Aluminum Crystal Card

An aluminum crystal card for identifying snow grain type and size in the field.

The card gives you a gridded surface to isolate crystals against and a scale to size them by. Grain type and size are how you identify a weak layer, and it is the observation that turns a pit into useful information rather than a hole in the snow.

Required kit for most avalanche courses.
