This is the ski Jim Morrison rode down the Hornbein Couloir on Everest, which tells you more about its range than a spec sheet would. It runs 97mm at the waist with an 18 meter radius and a mount point at -9cm, in red for 26/27.

Black Crows designed it around playfulness and versatility and it has become their benchmark for high-mountain mobility. A slender tip and medium-width waist make it dynamic through weight transfers and stable when edging. Progressive front rocker with an early-rise tail, classic medium camber underfoot, and a flex that stays solid underfoot then goes progressive through tip and tail. Extra fiberglass under the bindings for screw retention.

Their claim is a ski just as effective on the ascent as the descent, and that balance is why it has stayed in the line year after year. If you want one touring ski that handles a firm skin track, spring corn and a powder morning without complaint, this is it.

It is what we reach for when the plan is ambitious and the conditions are a question mark. Long approach, firm start, something good waiting at the top. The Camox is happy on that day, and with the precut Pilus Camox skins it is a complete kit.

This guide is for alpine (downhill) skis. Ski length depends on your height, your ability, and how you like to ski. Use this chart as a starting point, then talk to us about the ski itself: rocker, width, and turn shape all change how long a ski feels.

Quick Rule

  • Beginner: ski tip around your chin. Shorter skis turn easily.
  • Intermediate: tip between your nose and forehead.
  • Advanced: tip around the top of your head, for stability at speed.
  • Expert: about 5cm longer than advanced, for hard charging and big-mountain terrain.

Adjust For

  • Go longer: heavier build, fast skiing, deep snow, lots of tip rocker.
  • Go shorter: lighter build, tight trees and moguls, uphill touring.
  • Telemark: if you want a ski for tele, we recommend going down about 10cm from the length you normally like.
