The Black Crows Octo is a sharp, wild, yet light and comfortable carving ski designed for alpine skiing aesthetes. It is 84 mm underfoot with a 14 m radius, built from a poplar wood and fiberglass construction, with a classic medium camber underfoot and tapered, rockered tips.

Its short radius and sporty flex may evoke a slalom ski, but the light oversteer from the tapered tips and rocker lets you change the rhythm and shape of your turns on demand, from short to medium turns or even skids. The trade-off of a narrow, short-radius ski is float: on deep powder days a wider ski will be more fun.

It is for carving purists who want an engaging, high-performing corduroy eater that still feels light and agile underfoot. The poplar and fiberglass build gives it a solid, confidence-inspiring feel, and the 84 mm width makes edge-to-edge transitions quick.

Available in 167.2, 173.4, 179.3 and 185.4 cm. We are happy to help you pick a length at the shop.

We think the Octo is one of the most fun groomer skis around, perfect for those crisp Vermont mornings when the corduroy is fresh.

This guide is for alpine (downhill) skis. Ski length depends on your height, your ability, and how you like to ski. Use this chart as a starting point, then talk to us about the ski itself: rocker, width, and turn shape all change how long a ski feels.

Quick Rule

  • Beginner: ski tip around your chin. Shorter skis turn easily.
  • Intermediate: tip between your nose and forehead.
  • Advanced: tip around the top of your head, for stability at speed.
  • Expert: about 5cm longer than advanced, for hard charging and big-mountain terrain.

Adjust For

  • Go longer: heavier build, fast skiing, deep snow, lots of tip rocker.
  • Go shorter: lighter build, tight trees and moguls, uphill touring.
  • Telemark: if you want a ski for tele, we recommend going down about 10cm from the length you normally like.
