The Pieps Freeride is a simple, practical avalanche beacon for off-piste skiers who want straightforward operation.
It has a maximum digital range of 40 meters and a 30 meter search strip width. Dynamic field line guiding and a distinct audio signal lead you through the search, and in a multiple burial it processes every signal while showing the strongest.
It runs on one AA battery for at least 200 hours in send mode, transmits at 457 kHz and works from -20 to +45 C. It is small and light, about 110 grams, and supports the Pieps iPROBE. It measures 110 x 58 x 24mm, so it carries comfortably under your layers all day.
Carrying a beacon is not a guarantee of safety, so pair it with an avalanche course such as AIARE 1 and regular practice.
It is a solid, easy-to-learn beacon for new backcountry travelers.
