The Black Diamond Snaggletooth Pro is a technical mountaineering crampon that combines the precision of a monopoint with the stability of horizontal frontpoints. Designed originally by BD athlete and metalworker Whit Magro, it uses a horizontal monopoint with a smaller secondary frontpoint for bite and stability. Stainless steel construction resists rust and snowballing, dual-density ABS plates sit front and rear, and a rockered front rail matches modern mountain boots. Weight is 890 grams.
The trade-off is specialization. This is a crampon built for technical alpine terrain, so it carries more steel than a light glacier or ski touring crampon in exchange for precision on mixed pitches.
It is made for alpinists and ski mountaineers tackling technical routes in the big mountains, where mixed climbing demands precision and long approaches and snowy ridges call for stability.
The Snaggletooth Pro is one size, with a low-profile micro-adjust heel bail for a precise fit. For use with ski boots, Black Diamond offers wide toe bails sold separately.
We think the Snaggletooth Pro is a brilliant tool for serious objectives, and it is backed by Black Diamond's 2 year warranty.
