The Contour StartUp is a touring adapter that lets kids skin uphill on their regular alpine skis and boots. It clips into their everyday alpine bindings, they tour uphill, and then it stows in a backpack for the descent while they click back into their normal bindings. It is a telescoping frame with an integrated heel riser and weighs 790 g.
The trade-off is that it is a frame adapter, not a dedicated touring binding. It adds weight compared with a real tech setup, but it saves buying a whole second ski and binding package for a growing kid.
It is for families who want to get kids into touring without new gear. It is a great way to share a skin track and see if they love it.
The Kid size fits alpine boot sole lengths of 225 to 285 mm and the Jr size fits 245 to 305 mm, both with ISO 5355 alpine soles. Check your child's boot sole length before choosing.
We think the StartUp is one of the best ways to bring kids into the backcountry, simple, fun and ready to grow with them.
