The La Machine 3 is the 109 mm option in the middle of Faction's ultra-light, carbon-loaded La Machine touring family. It measures 132/109/124 mm with a paulownia wood core, fiberglass layers and two full-length carbon sheets, plus full-strength sidewalls, 2 mm edges, an elliptical sidecut and a micro-cap anti-shine topsheet. The 184 has a 21 m radius and weighs 1610 g per ski.
The trade-off of a wide, light touring ski is that it is built for soft snow and long climbs rather than firm groomers. It floats well and climbs easily, and skiers who want a hard-snow carver will want a narrower ski.
It is for touring skiers chasing powder who still need a ski that holds its own when conditions swing between fresh snow and sharky hardpack. It balances float with strong torsional stability.
Extended tip and tail rocker with low camber, a 6 out of 10 flex and a partial twin tip. Come talk to us about length and a touring binding and skin setup to match.
We think the La Machine 3 is a fantastic deep-snow touring ski for big days earning your turns.
This guide is for alpine (downhill) skis. Ski length depends on your height, your ability, and how you like to ski. Use this chart as a starting point, then talk to us about the ski itself: rocker, width, and turn shape all change how long a ski feels.

Quick Rule
- Beginner: ski tip around your chin. Shorter skis turn easily.
- Intermediate: tip between your nose and forehead.
- Advanced: tip around the top of your head, for stability at speed.
- Expert: about 5cm longer than advanced, for hard charging and big-mountain terrain.
Adjust For
- Go longer: heavier build, fast skiing, deep snow, lots of tip rocker.
- Go shorter: lighter build, tight trees and moguls, uphill touring.
- Telemark: if you want a ski for tele, we recommend going down about 10cm from the length you normally like.
