The Katadyn BeFree 1.0L is a soft, foldable water filter flask with a 0.1 micron hollow fibre filter that removes bacteria, cysts and sediment. It flows up to 2 liters per minute, treats about 1,000 liters depending on water quality and weighs just 63 g.
The trade-off is that it is made for clear water from streams and lakes. It filters out microorganisms like bacteria and protozoan cysts, so it is a filter rather than a full purifier for questionable water sources.
It is for hikers, runners, ski tourers and anyone who wants to carry less water and refill along the way. Fill the flask, screw on the filter and drink straight through it.
Cleaning is easy in the field: shake or swish the EZ-Clean membrane filter. The flask is PVC and BPA free, and it rolls up small when it is empty.
We love the BeFree for long days on the Long Trail when you would rather fill up at a stream than carry extra weight.
