The coverage argument holds regardless of styling. A bib keeps snow out of your layers when you go down in deep snow, and it removes the waist gap that every pant-plus-jacket combination has to manage. That's why they've come back into favour after twenty years out of it.

GORE-TEX construction means real weather protection, not water resistance. Straighter cut and roomier through the leg than the lofoten or tamok bibs.
