If you tour, this is the belay jacket, the one that lives in your pack and earns its place there through sheer warmth-to-weight. If you don't tour, it's still the best warmth-per-ounce piece we stock, and it makes a genuinely good travel jacket for the same reason.
800-fill refers to loft rather than weight of fill. Higher fill power means the same warmth from less down, which is why this compresses the way it does.
The trade-off is the usual down trade-off. Wet down doesn't loft and doesn't insulate. In consistently damp conditions, the trollveggen warm3 vest or a synthetic jacket will serve you better. In cold dry air, nothing beats this.
