Aluminum Probe

The Ortovox ALU 240 PFA is a compact, quick-assembling aluminum avalanche probe. It checks all the boxes for backcountry safety and is intuitive to use in an emergency.

It is 7075 T6 aluminum with a 13mm tube diameter and a 240cm extended length, and it weighs about 310g. 7075 T6 is a very strong, light aluminum alloy, and a 240cm length is a great all-around size for most snowpacks.

The PFA quick-assembly system is slimmer and more compact than Ortovox's earlier design, and the quick-release cover lets you open and assemble the probe in one motion without taking it out of its cover first. A thin rubber coating gives a good grip, and it has a large tip.

Every backcountry kit needs a probe alongside a beacon and shovel. Practicing with your probe before the season helps you set it up quickly when it counts.
