The Ortovox ZOOM+ Rescue Set puts the three avalanche essentials together in one package: the ZOOM+ beacon, a Badger shovel and a 240 Economic probe.
The ZOOM+ is a simple three-antenna beacon with Ortovox's Smart Antenna Technology, a 40 meter search range and 40 meter search strip width. The high-contrast display shows distance and direction with an LED indicator, and fine search has audio support.
It flags multiple burials, showing two victims and indicating more, and switches back to transmit automatically after 120 seconds. It runs about 250 hours on one AA battery, has a RECCO reflector inside and is made in Germany.
The Badger is a light aluminum shovel with an ergonomic hybrid grip. Carrying rescue gear is not a substitute for training, so pair it with an avalanche course and regular practice.
It is an excellent, easy-to-use starter kit for new backcountry skiers.
