Beast Shovel

The Ortovox Beast is a burly avalanche shovel built to dig fast.

The blade is strain-hardened AL 5052 aluminum with a powder coat, light and rigid, with high sidewalls, a pronounced center ridge for stiffness and a sharp, protected cutting edge. Non-slip step grooves let you drive it in with your boot.

The telescoping AL 6061 T6 handle has an oval cross section and a Hybrid Grip that combines the best of T and D grips, with a rubberized zone that stays ice-free. The handle stores in the blade so it packs well. It locks quickly so you can start digging right away.

This version has a 2.5 liter scoop, a working length up to 86cm and weighs about 710g. The blade measures 28 x 21 x 4cm, and the handle collapses to 45cm for packing.

It is a great shovel for serious backcountry skiers who want maximum digging power.
