The Ortler Softshell Pants are versatile, breathable ski touring pants made from an elastic softshell with merino wool. The fabric is 60% recycled polyamide, 20% merino, 10% polyamide and 10% elastane, with merino against the skin, and it is water-resistant, robust and stretchy.
The strength here is range: breathable on the ascent, flexible while you move and pleasantly warm on the descent. The trade-off is that softshell is water-resistant rather than waterproof, so on a wet storm day or deep, sitting-in-the-snow conditions a hardshell pant will keep you drier.
Ortovox built these for demanding ski tours, and they are the pant for skiers who spend most of their day moving uphill and want comfort in sun, wind or light snow. If you mostly ski lifts in stormy weather, a waterproof pant is the better call.
Comfortable fit for full freedom of movement, with an adjustable waistband, anatomically shaped knees and adjustable ankle cuffs. There are two zippered front pockets, a right thigh pocket with a mesh inner for an avalanche transceiver, and water-resistant edge protection at the cuffs.
These are a fantastic everyday touring pant, the kind you pull on for dawn patrol and forget about until the last turn.
