The Ravine Metawool 90 Jacket is the insulated layer in Ortovox's Ravine freeride series, developed for steep descents and deep powder. It uses 90 g/m² of Metawool fill, made from 80% German merino wool and 20% polylactide, inside a windproof, robust shell of 100% recycled polyamide. The women's version weighs 443 g and is made in Europe.
Metawool regulates moisture the way wool does, so it stays comfortable when you work up a sweat, and it packs down small for the warmth it gives. The honest trade-off is that the outer fabric is windproof rather than waterproof, so on a wet storm day it belongs under a shell.
Ortovox gives it its highest rating for freeride and a strong score for ski touring. It is for skiers who want real warmth on cold days, whether that means long chair rides or transitions on a windy ridge. If you need a light, breathable layer for hard climbing, a fleece will suit you better.
Loose fit with room for a midlayer underneath, plus a pre-adjusted hood, two front pockets, elastic cuffs and an elastic waist to keep drafts out.
We think it is one of the best cold-day layers going, cozy, packable and ready for the deepest, coldest days of the season.
