Venet is Ortovox's lightweight ski touring line, and the Swisswool 60 Jacket is its insulated piece: 60 g/m2 of Swisswool inside, a Pertex Quantum face made from 100% recycled polyamide that resists wind and water and survives at least 50,000 Martindale abrasion cycles, and Merino Airsolation Stretch panels across the back and sides. It weighs 255 g.
Sixty grams of wool is a deliberately modest amount of insulation. It will not keep you warm standing around at the top in January, and that is the point: it is warm enough to keep moving in without cooking you on the climb, and the stretch panels breathe where a full insulated jacket would trap heat.
It is for ski tourers and alpinists who want insulation they can leave on while working. If you want a jacket to throw on at the summit and stand in, the DownWool 180 is the warmer call.
The fit is athletic and the hood is elastic rather than adjustable. Two chest pockets clear a pack hipbelt and have mesh linings that double as vents, and the cuffs and hem finish elastic.
This is the layer that solves the eternal touring problem of being too hot or too cold. Light, breathable and quietly excellent.
