The Salomon MTN Crampon is a ski crampon for Salomon MTN, Atomic Backland and Armada Tracer touring bindings. It is made by Plum in France from aluminum and stainless steel, and it weighs about 110 g. It mounts vertically from the top, and grooves in the pivot axle center it automatically, so you do not need the plastic clip that ships with MTN bindings.
The trade-off is like tire chains: you carry them on days you may never use them. When the skin track goes hard and steep, though, they are the difference between a confident climb and a scary one.
They are for MTN, Backland and Tracer skiers touring in spring, on wind-scoured terrain or anywhere refrozen snow is likely. They slide right into place, so you can put them on without taking your skis off.
Widths are color coded so you can grab the right one fast: 90 mm is red, 100 mm is black and 110 mm is dark blue. Pick the width that fits your ski at the binding.
We think the MTN Crampon is a must-have for any tourer on MTN or Backland bindings, light, simple and ready for icy mornings.
